UK news
LEXINGTON, KY--UK men's basketball player DeMarcus Cousins was named the SEC Freshman of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.
Cousins, a 6-11 forward from Birmingham, Ala., averaged 18.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in wins over No. 25 Ole Miss and at LSU. He had double-double efforts with 18 points and 13 rebounds against Ole Miss and then 19 points and 14 rebounds at LSU. He has recorded six straight double-doubles, becoming the first Wildcat since 1989 to accomplish that feat. Cousins' 14 double-doubles on the season lead the SEC and are the most by a UK player since 2000.
The honor is the third Freshman of the Week award for Cousins this season and his fourth weekly award this year. Cousins was named the SEC Player of the Week on Jan. 4.
The Wildcats have now been awarded a league record 11 weekly awards from the SEC this season

Rush Limbaugh was right after all. We, the mainstream media, have been desirous. We?ve spent more than a decade trying to hype Peyton Manning into the Babe Ruth of football.
The job is too big for two Mannings, let alone Peyton, the quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts.

Loved this scene: Drew Brees with son Baylen

******

Super Bowl reaction
*Loved the scene of Brees with his son after the game
*How about the irony of the Indianapolis Colts being done in by an Indiana Hoosier (T. Porter) and a Purdue Boiler maker (Drew Brees).
*Gutsy on-side kick! Longest scrum to determine possession I've ever seen.
*First Super Bowl I can remember where there wasn't a villain I was rooting against.
*Down 10-0 the Saints outscored the Colts 31-7. The Colts scored 7 points in last 44 minutes of the game
*How bout Gregg Williams and the Saints defense? They beat Kurt Warner, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning in the postseason.
*Best tip of the broadcast: Phil Simms revealing the Saints defense had multiple gameplans for Manning and would show him something new in the 4th quarter.
*What the? The Colts stopped the Saints on 4th and goal...then proceed to run three straight times...punt the ball back and watch the Saints drive for a FG????? Why not trust Manning to make a play?
*A 51-yard field goal attempt? By a 42-year old? Why not trust Manning to make a play...even on 4th and 11 at the Saints 33 yard line?
*The Manning pick 6 made me jump off the couch...still can't believe it
*When the Saints 2 point conversion failed I said to Casey that Manning would drive to win it.
*When the failed 2 point conversion was overruled I said to Casey that Manning would drive to tie and we were looking at OT.
*Huge drop by Pierre Garcon on 3rd down in the 2nd quarter...killed momentum
*Huge drop by Wayne on 4th goal at the end. I'd love to have seen another on-side kick
*Hey Bengals....there were only a combined 37 rushing attempts in the game....a new record.
*Couldn't believe the Saints didn't put it the hands of Brees on 3rd or 4th and goal at the end of the half.
*TV market
Super Bowl champion Saints:
New Orleans is TV market #51 (3rd smallest TV market in NFL)
World Series champion Yankees:
New York is TV market #1...(3rd smallest TV market in MLB is Kansas City)
*How did CBS blow the audio for the starting lineups.....for both teams?
*The Who ROCKS!

****

Commercials
*Underwhelming for the most part. 2.5-3.0 million dollars per :30....for some of those?
*Loved:
*Betty White/Abe V. Snickers
*Doritos little kid..."Get your hands off my momma"
*Megan Fox phone
*E-Trade kids
Didn't love:
*How many commercials had guys in underwear? Make it stop.
Best promo
Letterman, Leno and Oprah
And now I've heard it all
Reaction to Tim Tebow ad:
NOW president Terry O'Neill said it glorified violence against women. "I am blown away at the celebration of the violence against women in it," she said. "That's what comes across to me even more strongly than the anti-abortion message. I myself am a survivor of domestic violence, and I don't find it charming. I think CBS should be ashamed of itself."

I'll take the Colts
I could make this all complicated and detailed. I won't.
How do you pick against Peyton Manning? You don't.
The Saints have lived off a defense that has forced turnovers all season long (39, #2 NFL).
I can't see the Colts turning the ball over enough to flip the game.
The Saints defense is agressive. Manning has had two weeks to figure them out.
The Colts have been there done that with 25 players with Super Bowl experience. The Saints have four active players with Super Bowl experience.
Final: Colts 38-27.

Hey Bud, what's your problem?
I was looking over TV ratings this week for "24" and started looking at TV market sizes.
The TV market size of Indianapolis is 25th (Colts). The TV market size of New Orleans (Saints) is 51st.
Could you imagine ML teams in similar market sizes playing in the World Series?
Consider market size of some cities with an NFL and MLB team...and the difference in success.
Pittsburgh, 23 (Steelers/Pirates)
Baltimore, 27 (Ravens/Orioles)
San Diego, 28 (Chargers/Padres)
Cincinnati, 33 (Bengals/Reds)
And consider the success of the Packers in Green Bay, market 70....the NFL's smallest market.
Amazing what a salary cap can do to level the playing field and create hope and faith for fans.
Have you heard anyone pointing out the payroll of the Colts or Saints this week?
Heck, yesterday the Colts said they are prepared to make Peyton Manning the highest paid player in NFL history.
The best NFL teams are the ones making the smartest decisions...scouting, drafting, developing and coaching.
Then there's the Yankees, who most view as buying a World Series.

UC football
CINCINNATI--The University of Cincinnati football team will play at North Carolina State University on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010 in a game set to be televised nationally by ESPN, head coach Butch Jones announced Thursday. UC, the two-time defending BIG EAST Conference Champions, and NC State will meet for the first time on the gridiron. The Bearcats last faced an Atlantic Coast Conference team in 2009, taking on Virginia Tech in the FedEx Orange Bowl.
The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. EST from the Wolfpack's Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, N.C. This marks the fourth-straight year UC will be featured on an ESPN Thursday night broadcast. The Bearcats are 3-0 in those games, knocking off USF twice (2008, 09), and Oregon State (2007).

He insists he’s got the best job going....and who is to argue? He gets paid to talk about the teams he grew up with in Cincinnati. He painted his face for the Freezer Bowl and watched Pete get hits 3,000 and 4,192 in person. His broadcast career originated with weekly calls to WLW Sports Talk to talk circles around Bob Trumpy. When he wasn’t bugging neighbor Marty Brennaman to sign his 1976 Reds Greatest Hits album, he was playing for Cincinnati’s 1977 dynasty little league team, Wicks Good Food and Booze. Being cut from his high school baseball team, as a left handed shortstop, opened the door to doing radio at his high school station.
After graduation from Carmel High School in Carmel, Indiana in 1984 it was onto Butler University. His TV sports anchor career began at WSBT-TV in South Bend and took him to CLTV in Chicago. The highlight of his broadcast career was  winning a Midwest Emmy for  Chicago Bulls coverage.  Eventually he left to do radio with Norm Van Lier at WMVP AM 1000 in Chicago. Then it was back home to Cincinnati in 1997.
He resides in Northern Kentucky. Wife Kelly was his intern in Chicago (insert own joke here). He has two children, Casey 9, and Peyton 6. In 2003 Casey received a bone marrow transplant that saved his life after being diagnosed with AML leukemia. Lance is the proud owner of the St. Pete Roses, his fantasy baseball team for the past 20 years. In 2006 he played on the Reds Baseball Heaven Championship team with his father. In November of 2008, after passing out and flat lining for 60-seconds, he joined the club of those with a pacemaker.
