Suarez and Phillies dominate Reds 7-0

Phillies 7 Reds 0

Quick Cap:
Well, Hunter Greene gave the Reds seven innings they desperately needed. Unfortunately, he also allowed the Phillies four runs on a night where Phillies starter Ranger Suarez and two relievers allowed none. That’s seven straight wins for the Phils. It's the first time the Reds have been shutout.

At least the Reds bullpen is back in line and should be good to go.

All things considered....the Reds lost their starting pitcher to injury after three batters Sunday......won the game, then lost Monday.
A split, with a bullpen that is now back in line....in the big 162.....is a win. Most times you have no business winning when your starter leaves before end of the 1st.....and then.... you usually pay for it the next couple of days with your bullpen wrecked.

Notes:

Hunter Greene: 7 IN, 7 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 6 K, 99 pitches/66 strikes.
Good news: He was more pitch efficient….and was aggressive.
Bad news: Phillies jumped him/squared up pitches early and often.
1st: 12 pitch/12 fastball/12 strike 1-2-3 inning.
Then allowed a single run in innings 2-3-4-5, aided by three doubles and a triple.
Retired the final seven, including 8 pitch 7th. 49 pitches in 4, 77 in 5. 91 in 6.
Selection: 61 four seam fastballs, 28 sliders, 5 splitters, 5 curves. 15 foul balls, after 24-23-26 last three starts.
Last went 7 innings September 20 of last year vs Twins, 1 R, 14 K.  ERA now 4.55….Ashcraft 5.24, Martinez 4.76.

Ranger Suarez entered with 1.73 ERA and back-to-back scoreless starts, including a complete game in his last start. That’s 25 consecutive scoreless innings, the longest streak by a Phillies starter since Cliff Lee in 2011 (Bally’s).

Reds were without Fraley and India in the starting lineup, again, due to illness.

Offense: 2 H…Fairchild, CES, 1 BB, 9 K.  Run support last four starts by Hunter: 0-1-2-2.

Elly: SB (11)

Nick Castellanos: 2 H. Entered hitting .177.

Bryce Harper will miss the first three games of the series on paternity leave. His replacement, Kody Clemens 2B, HR.

Bullpen:
17.1 scoreless innings ended when Clemens jacked a 3-run bomb of Legumina in the 9th. Legumina: 2 IN after his call up Monday to replace Frankie Montas.

How they scored:
They didn’t

The 2:02 length of game is the 2nd quickest 9 inning game in 22 year history of GABP. Trailing 1:56 vs Rockies, May 20, 2004.....3-1 win.
