NL All-Star gets 13th win
Aaron Cook went eight solid innings while Jeff Baker and Brad Hawpe homered leading the Rockies over the Reds 7-2 Friday night. It was Colorado's seventh win in the last eight games.
Cook, out of Hamilton, got his 13th win of the year allowing five hits and one run with four strikesouts for his third win in his last four decisions over five starts. He hit one batter but didn't walk anybody. His first six outs and 10 of his first 12 were ground balls, with one fly out and one strikeout.
The Reds' Edinson Volquez labored through four innings, throwing 99 pitches, only 59 for strikes. He gave up seven hits and five runs. Volquez moves to 12-4.
Willy Taveras had three hits and three stolen bases for the Rockies, who scored two first inning runs off Volquez on a Garrett Atkins double. In the Colorado third, Jeff Baker hit a one out home run, and then two batters later, Hawpe went deep for a 5-1 lead.
Game two of the series is Saturday night. Jorge De La Rosa will oppose Homer Bailey. Gametime is 7:10. Coverage begins at 6:10pm with the Inside Pitch on 700 WLW.
