Nick Lodolo tossed 6.1 innings of one run ball. Tyler Stephenson hit a titanic solo homer to break a 6th inning tie. Elly De La Cruz capped his dazzling and electrifying night with a three run opposite field homer to highlight a five run 8th. The Reds broke a three game skid and move to 10-9 on the season.
Notes:
Elly stuff: 2 H, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, 3 SB. Singled,stole 2nd and scored on a wild throw when he stole 3rd in the 2nd. Six homers over his last 10 games. He’s the first player to reach 10 SB this season. Per Jay Morrison, Elly joins Joe Morgan as the only Reds players to have three stolen bases and three RBIs in the same game since at least 1920. Morgan did it in a 10-1 win against the Astros on 9-17-75.
Stephenson, hitting cleanup for the first time since last September 17, jacked a second deck HR that left the bat at 111 mph and traveled 433-feet.
Add-on 8th: The Reds loaded the bases and scored twice when Nick Martini was hit by a pitch to score Jonathan India and Spencer Steer came home on a wild pitch.
India: 1B, BB. Snapped career worst 0 for 24 with a 3rd inning single.
Heads up: 1B Steer fielded an Elly throw on an infield single, pivoted and threw to the plate to cut down Jo Adell, who was attempting to score from 2nd.
Lodolo: 6.1 IN, 7 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K, 80 pitches/57 strikes.
His 10.1 inning scoreless streak ended on a Jo Adell game-tying RBI 1B in the 5th. Two starts: 12 IN, 1 R, 1 BB, 16 K.
Pen: A high leverage moment was handed to Fernando Cruz: 2nd and 3rd with one out in the 7th and Reds up 2-1. He struck out both batters he faced.
